Impetigo

Adults and Children 1 Years & Over

What is Impetigo?

Impetigo is an acute condition of the skin caused by bacteria. It is characterised by a collection of pus-filled sores/blisters most commonly around the mouth, nose and sometimes the hands. When the blisters burst, they usually crust over giving a yellowish appearance. Whilst it is more prevalent in children it can also affect adults. The infection is highly contagious and can spread easily through close contact or by sharing personal items such as towels or bedding. Maintaining good hygiene, regular handwashing, and avoiding scratching the affected areas can help reduce transmission.
